2024 College Football Week 3 ATS & Total Picks
#24 Boston College @ #6 Missouri | Saturday, 7:00 p.m. ET
Kicking off our Saturday slate is an intriguing matchup between the No. 6 Missouri Tigers and No. 24 Boston College Eagles. Missouri comes in as a 16.5-point favorite, but Boston College is an early-season Cinderella story. After head coach Jeff Hafley departed to the NFL, Bill O’Brien took over and led BC to a shocking upset over Florida State as 21.5-point road underdogs. They followed it up by dismantling Duquesne 56-0 in their home opener.
Quarterback Thomas Castellanos has been electric, and the Eagles currently rank 15th in total defense. However, this may be the toughest test they’ve faced yet. Missouri boasts not only star QB Brady Cook and WR Luther Burden but also Theo Wease, who went off for 149 yards and a touchdown last week. Mizzou is 2-0 ATS this season and currently sits atop the national rankings in total defense.
Boston College’s story is compelling, but Missouri looks like a powerhouse. As long as Burden is healthy, we think this is where the fairytale run ends for the Eagles.
Pick: Missouri -16.5 (-108)
Washington State vs Washington | Seattle, Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET
Next, we head to Seattle for an in-state rivalry between Washington State and Washington. The Cougars have started strong, covering the spread against Portland State in Week 1 and dismantling Texas Tech 37-16 as slight favorites in Week 2. But now they face a Washington team that is quietly building something special under head coach Jedd Fisch.
Washington is 2-0 with comfortable wins over Weber State and Eastern Michigan. Transfer QB Will Rogers, who threw for 35+ touchdowns in back-to-back seasons at Mississippi State, looks sharp, and Steve Belichick’s defense has them ranked in the top 25 in total defense.
Washington’s moneyline is currently sitting at -170, but if you’re looking for value, we’d recommend laying the 4.5 points. The Huskies are trending in the right direction, and I expect them to take care of business against their rivals.
Pick: Washington -4.5 (-110)
#1 Georgia @ Kentucky | Saturday, 7:30 p.m. ET
We wrap up our Week 3 picks with the primetime showdown between #1 Georgia and Kentucky. Georgia opened as 18-point favorites, but the line has since ballooned to 23.5 after Kentucky’s embarrassing 31-6 loss to South Carolina as six-point favorites. Meanwhile, Georgia cruised to a 48-3 win over Tennessee Tech but failed to cover the massive 53.5-point spread.
Last year, Georgia covered the 24-point line against Kentucky, but they failed to do so in the two years prior. Still, this Georgia team is loaded, with Carson Beck, Trevor Etienne, Arian Smith and a defense that looks as dominant as ever. Kentucky, on the other hand, is struggling without key players like Ray Davis, and we’re not sold on Brock Vandagriff taking on his former team.
The trends might suggest caution, but Georgia looks too good on paper to fade them here. I’m laying the points with the Bulldogs.
Pick: Georgia -24 (-108)
