Fantasy Football Week 5: Players to Sell
As we enter Week 5 of the fantasy football season, it's time to take advantage of sell-high opportunities and offload players who may have peaked in value. The Professor is back with three players who are great candidates to sell this week before their production potentially drops off. Let’s dive into the top sell-high targets for Week 5.
1. DeAndre Swift (RB, Chicago Bears)
If you’re a DeAndre Swift owner, this might be the perfect week to sell him high. After an underwhelming first few weeks where Swift finished outside the top 25-30 running backs, he finally had a standout Week 4 performance, largely due to his work in the passing game (7 catches for 72 yards). However, don’t count on this trend continuing.
Swift has been inefficient in the run game, averaging less than four yards per carry, and his role could shrink moving forward as rookie Roschon Johnson carves out a larger share of the backfield. Additionally, Swift has already lost goal-line touches, and with the depth at wide receiver in Chicago, his passing game usage is likely to decline as well.
Why Sell? Swift’s Week 4 performance may have been a fluke, and his role in Chicago is uncertain. Sell now while his value is high.
2. Jauan Jennings (WR, San Francisco 49ers)
Jauan Jennings is another player who might look appealing to fantasy managers after a decent Week 4 performance where he caught three passes for 88 yards. However, Jennings plays less than 50% of offensive snaps and doesn’t command a large target share in the 49ers’ offense. As Deebo Samuel gets healthier and returns to his usual role, Jennings’ already limited involvement could shrink even further.
Moreover, once Brandon Aiyuk is fully back, Jennings’ targets could become even more sporadic. Now is the perfect time to sell Jennings to a manager looking for receiver depth while his value is still intact.
Why Sell? Jennings has had a few solid games, but his long-term outlook isn’t promising as the 49ers' primary receivers return to full health.
3. Chase Brown (RB, Cincinnati Bengals)
Chase Brown has been a popular name floating around waiver wires and fantasy circles, but now is the time to capitalize on his buzz and sell him. Despite some offseason hype and the excitement surrounding his potential, Brown’s role in Cincinnati is not secure. The Bengals appear committed to using Zach Moss as their primary back, especially on passing downs and goal-line situations.
Brown has only played in two pass-blocking snaps this entire season, and his opportunities for significant fantasy production are limited as long as Moss continues to see most of the meaningful touches. Don’t get caught holding onto a player who may not live up to the current buzz.
Why Sell? Brown’s value is inflated due to offseason hype and a couple of recent performances, but his role is unlikely to expand, especially with Moss locked into key duties.
Final Thoughts
In fantasy football, timing is everything. Selling high on players like DeAndre Swift, Jauan Jennings, and Chase Brown after strong or hyped performances can help you secure better assets for the long run.
